The amendment is as follows: Amendment- Section 301(b)(1) of title 36, United States Code, is amended by striking subparagraphs (A) through (C) and inserting the following subparagraphs: (A) individuals in uniform should give the military salute at the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until the last note; (B) members of the Armed Services and veterans who are present but not in uniform may render a military salute in the manner provided for individuals in uniform; and (C) all other persons present should face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart, and men not in uniform, if applicable, should remove their head-dress with their right hand and hold it to the left shoulder, the hand over the heart.

Mailing List Our chapter is setting up a group mailing list so all members can be "in the loop" when time doesn't allow for a web site posting. It will consist of reminders of events and breaking news. This way if someone is ill or there is a family tragedy members won't have to find out after the fact. Any member can e-mail news to vet2vet@verizon.net Make sure to include all necessary information. PLEASE KEEP MAILINGS LIMITED TO IMPORTANT INFORMATION! Mailings of any and all activities does not obligate anyone. It's sole purpose is to act as a reminder and information tool and will not contain jokes or other mailings that do not pertain to the Chapter or it's members. To participate send your name and e-mail address to vet2vet@verizon.net All addresses will be used for Chapter purposes only and not given to outside interests. All mailings will have VVA Chapter 800 as it's subject.
Can Shake Testimonials ~ Andrew W. will sign up for all future can shakes just from the response he got from the public.
~ Kurt S. is ready for another can shake after an Iraq deployed soldier's mom broke down and thanked him for out Chapter going to VA Hospitals to provide comfort for our injured brothers.
~ Ron G. will do more can shakes after a total stranger apologized for how badly the Vietnam Veterans were treated when he returned and thanked him for his service to his country.
~ Joe B. was in jungle fatigues and had to decline leaving the can shake by two good looking women who wanted to take him out for drinks.
The list of positives goes on. For any of our members who wish to give the can shake experience a try, call either:

Membership Drive Chapter 800 is asking for each member to sign up just one new member this year. Just imagine what the strength of our Chapter could be. Reach out for new VA members and Associate members. This is not a one-person job, but together we can make a difference.

WE WANT YOUR ZIPPOS! The New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Foundation will be hosting a lecture on the History of Zippo Lighters. Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at 7:00 PM Linda Meabon, the Zippo Manufacturing Historian, will be discussing the history of these prominent lighters. Vietnam War Zippos represent a varied and popular category for collectors of military memorabilia as well as Zippo fans. There are Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard Vietnam Zippos, as well as Zippos for the RVN, Australian and other services. A subset of Vietnam War Navy Zippos are Riverine or so-called Brown-Water Navy Zippos. There are different types of Vietnam engravings, which are not necessarily mutually exclusive:
If you have a Zippo Lighter that you would be willing to loan us temporarily, we would love to include it in an exhibit that we are planning. Please email Katie Witzig at kwitzig@njvvmf.org or call 732-335-0033 x 104 for additional information or instructions for submitting your Zippo.
